Introduction

Dr. Galina Levina is a Senior Research Scientist at the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Her expertise spans fluid dynamics, geophysical fluid dynamics, computational fluid dynamics, and tropical cyclone research. She has made distinguished contributions to vortex dynamics and the fundamental mechanisms governing typhoon genesis and evolution.

Visiting details

In November 2025, Dr. Levina was hosted by the Asia-Pacific Typhoon Collaborative Research Center (APTCRC) for an extended academic visit in Shanghai. During her stay, she concentrated on the fluid dynamics of typhoons, vortex dynamics, and formation mechanisms, engaging in in-depth collaboration with APTCRC researchers. Her work in geophysical fluid dynamics and vortex theory provided valuable new perspectives and advanced methodologies that strengthened the Center’s integrated forecasting and risk early-warning capabilities across the Asia-Pacific region, enhancing scientific support for regional disaster prevention and mitigation.
