Introduction
Dr. Chanh Kieu is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Indiana University, Bloomington. His research focuses on atmospheric science and climate dynamics, with particular expertise in improving climate models and simulating extreme weather events. He has made significant contributions to the understanding of tropical cyclone dynamics, predictability, and high-resolution modeling. Dr. Kieu actively promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and open data sharing in international research initiatives.
Visiting details
From 12 to 18 October 2025, Dr. Kieu was invited by the Asia-Pacific Typhoon Collaborative Research Center (APTCRC) to conduct an academic visit and exchange in Shanghai. During the visit, he collaborated intensively with APTCRC scientists on typhoon simulation and predictability within climate models, as well as on the dynamics of extreme weather events and associated disaster prediction techniques. The visit aimed to deepen joint research efforts and enhance integrated forecasting and risk early-warning capacities across the Asia-Pacific region.
