China and Korea Establish Joint Cooperation on Typhoon Aircraft Reconnaissance
On 20 November 2025 in Shanghai, the Asia-Pacific Typhoon Collaborative Research Center(AP-TCRC) and the National Institute of Meteorological Sciences(NIMS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to conduct joint aircraft reconnaissance, share real-time data and carry out collaborative research over field campaigns on typhoons and severe weather, as well as co-hosting workshops and training to advance aviation meteorology and severe-weather research capabilities.

Dr. Tang Jie, Director of AP-TCRC, and Dr. Lee Chulkyu, Director of the NIMS Observation Research Department signed the MoU, joined by NIMS delegation members Dr. Baek-Jo Kim, Dr. Ki-Hoon Kim, Dr. Tae-Young Goo and Mr. Suengpil Jung, as well as AP-TCRC Science Director, and Chief Scientist on Typhoon Observations and Research Dr. Robert Fulton Rogers, Chair of ISSC Prof. Johnny C. L. CHAN, and Deputy Director Dr. YU Zifeng.
The MoU will promote joint scientific research in typhoon monitoring, forecasting and disaster-risk management, enhance regional synergy in typhoon disaster-reduction science and technology, and contribute China-Korea scientific strength to global disaster prevention and mitigation efforts.
